What are the basic tips for safety?


Safety is the most important thing that one should pay attention to while on & off campus. Below are some basic rules to follow for keeping you and your belongings safe.

  • Do not work off campus
  • Do not accept rides from strangers or interact with people who may be intoxicated
  • Please carry necessary cash, credit cards and a cellular phone
  • Avoid shady neighborhoods when you travel around the city
  • Do not give out personal information to any stranger on the phone
  • If you must travel somewhere alone, make sure a roommate, close friend or relative knows where you are going and when you are expected to get back
  • Please keep your dorm room/apartment doors locked at all times
  • Please keep a list of emergency numbers by the phone
  • If you notice someone who seems out of place or behaves suspiciously, report that to security or the police
  • Do not drive alone at night, if possible and never pick up hitchhikers
  • Do not leave valuable items in plain view inside your car, instead lock them in the trunk
  • Always call 911 in case of emergency on road or at home
  • Please buy a roadside assistance membership (ex: available at $50 per year by AAA) that can help you with car trouble etc.,
